Hello friends! We are Wesley United Methodist Church in the Erie, PA community of Wesleyville. We love to serve our neighbors in need of fellowship and food, in Jesus’ name. We help people find new life in Jesus. Now, we need help to continue our ministry efforts with several vital building repair issues. We’ve set up this site as a part of our campaign to fund repairs and updates for our Wesley Community Center and for demolition of a vacant house on our premises formerly used for offices.
We need to reinforce the roof beams in the Wesley Center to prevent further separation, replace the air conditioning units, and make other updates to our interior. These repairs will keep the Wesley Center structurally and functionally sound, allowing us to offer it as an accessible, conveniently located, and reliable neighborhood gathering place.
If you don’t know us, let us also tell you a little about ourselves. Wesley Church itself has met continually as a Methodist church since 1810. Wesley Church served as part of the Underground Railroad and promoted Children and Youth Ministry and Global Mission during our history. We are a part of God’s work in building a community grounded in love for God and our neighbors.
The Wesley Center houses food-based ministries such as a Summer Lunch Program where we provide lunches for approximately 50 children 4 days a week throughout the summer. This program has been running for over seven years and offers enrichment activities as well. Wesley Church often hosts free Community Dinners at the center.
The Wesley Center has hosted the Wesley Interfaith Food Pantry since 1987. The Food Pantry serves about 100 families and is a separate entity run collaboratively by Hope and Faith Chapel, St. Mary’s Episcopal, Messiah Lutheran, Wesleyville Baptist, and us. The Wesley Center’s space makes food distribution convenient, and storage for the Food Pantry is in the building. The Food Pantry distributes food obtained from the Second Harvest Food Bank and local grocery stores.
The Wesley Center serves as a safe home base for our Youth, Family, and Senior Ministry Neighborhood Outreach. The Center also hosts special events and neighborhood groups in need of a place to meet.
Please consider giving to our campaign to update our Wesley Center and keep it safe. We appreciate all your support and prayers. Blessings to you and yours!
